Osborne & Little Collections
The Pompadour collection contains romantic fabrics in the contemporary idiom and palette of Osborne & Little. The collection alludes to Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, marquise de Pompadour (17211764) the most influential of Louis Xs mistresses, remaining a close confidante of the king until her death. Within the Pompadour ensemble collection we have the Soubise collection featuring a rose bouquet in the shape of a paisley teardrop, printed in relief in silver and bronze on pure linen with a fine metallic dusting (Anne-Julie de Rohan Chabot, princesse de Soubise (16481709) was a mistress of Louis XIV). Mademoiselle de Marivault, a mistress of Louis XIV, lends her name to the scrolling acanthus leaf pattern gilded as if with precious metal on pure linen within the Pompadour Collection. Another mistress of Louis XIV, Louise-Francoise de la Baume le Blanc, duchesse de La Valliere et de Vaujours (1844 -1710), later entered a Carmelite convent under the name Sister Louise of Mercy, lends her name to an all-over paisley motif depicted in fine metallic tracery on a linen-union ground. Another mistress of Louis XIV, Catherine-Charlotte de Gramont, (16391678) princesse de Monaco through her marriage to Prince Louis 1 of Monaco, went by the nickname of"the Torren lends her name to another part of the collection featuring a pure silk two-tone floral damask. The Palais Chonois part of the collection alludes to a fantastical chinoiserie scene of the grandest scale featuring pagodas, storks and costumed figures printed on linen, bringing to life the effect that under Louis XIV, French society was greatly influenced by the Orient. The final part of the Pompadour Collection features a stylised trail of leaves and twin coloured flowerheads on pure silk and is named after Nicole de Savigny, baronne de Fontette (15351590) was widowed at 17 and later became the mistress of Henri II of France. The Marinetti Velvets Collection comprises luxurious jacquard velvets in rich contemporary colourings named after artists of the Italian Futurist movement. Filippo Marinetti (1876 1944) was an ideologist, poet, editor and founder of the Futurist movement. In The Founding and Manifesto of Futurism, Marinetti declared that Art can be nothing but violence, cruelty and injustice. The Azari part of the collection presents a composition of small rectangular blocks in two complementary colours, named after Fedele Azari (18951930) who was an art dealer, exhibition organiser, early aviator and first national secretary of the Futurists. The Papini section of the collection presents a mid-scale all-over pattern of interlocking swirls and circles, inspired by Giovanni Papini (18811956), a poet, novelist and critic. The Lucini section of the Marinetti Velvets Collection presents an elegant paisley teardrop motif set in horizontal bands, named after Gian Petro Lucini (18671914) who was a writer and poet. The Severini part of the collection is named after Gino Severini (18831966), a painter in a variety of media including mosaic and fresco, helped organise the first Futurist exhibition outside Italy in Paris in 1912, and presents a large colourful rectangular blocks attached by a thin vertical stripe and set in relief on a contrasting ground. The last part of the ensemble collection is named after Antonio Marasco (18961975) an artist, set designer and founder of Futurist theatre groups, and features a trellis reminiscent of the braiding on military uniforms.
The Kintyre Plains are three versatile upholstery fabrics named after romantic Scottish isles. A variety of shades of linen and neutrals combined with earthy and brighter jewel tones. All have excellent Martindale abrasion results. The Kintyre Check features a tiny chenille square of colour contrasts with the linen-coloured framework. (Abrasion result 40,000). The Kintyre Chenille is a handsome ottoman chenille of exceptional handle and durability (Abrasion result 142,000), and Eriksay is textured semi-plain with a shot-effect achieved by space-dyed yarns (Abrasion result 113,000). The Kediri Silk Collection presents satins of silk with cotton in a glorious palette of twenty-seven colourways, the perfect luxurious plain component for any contemporary or classical decorating scheme, named after Kediri, a kingdom in eastern Java from the 11th to 13th centuries.
