Tanjore is known as therice bow of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, famous for its temple built more than 1,000 years ago. Shantaram inebriates us with its monochrome embroidery of wave-like ogees on silk in black/white and cream/ecru. A city in India and title of a best-selling novel by Australian Gregory David Roberts. Assam features large French marigolds in contrasting colours embroidered on linen, is named after the north eastern Indian state famous for its tea. Kishore presents stylised water lilies embroidered in exquisite detail float on puffed silk. Kumar Kishore was a famous Hindu singer who died in 1987. Ellora exhibits an ikat design inspired by the feathered plumes used to decorate elaborate turbans. Ellora is a world heritage site of monumental caves excavated from the cliff face as temples between the 5th and 10th centuries in the state of Maharashtra. Udaipur presents an exuberant burst of fireworks in this jacquard of silk and viscose named after the historic city in the state of Rajasthan. Varanasi features the exotic swirls of a dances headdress evoked in a silk and viscose lampas. Also known as Benares, Varanasi is a holy Hindu city on the Ganges. Lampas is a type of luxury fabric with a background weft (aground weav) typically in taffeta with supplementary wefts (thepattern weft) laid on top and forming a design, sometimes also with abrocading wef. Lampas is typically woven in silk. Minto identifies a suitable link with Scotland for this modern plaid of squares stitched on to the softest of wools. The Coriolan Collection by Lorca associates itself with the French spelling of Coriolanus. Gaius Marcius Coriolanus (5th century BC) was the legendary Roman general who inspired Beethoven and who is the flawed eponymous hero of Shakespeare's play. The collection features a versatile cotton and viscose velvet in twenty key colours from the Lorca palette. Its soft handle and the chiaroscuro effect of the colouring make it an excellent choice for drapery as well as an ideal upholstery fabric with an exceptional Martindale abrasion test result (in excess of 200,000). The Imperia ensemble features a collection of sumptuous fabrics typical of the elegant Parisian design studio Lorca. Within it we find Felicite with an embroidery on silk featuring bees and dragonflies darting between scattered tulips and peonies, inspired by the finest gardens. In three colourways, on ivory, on pale taupe and eau de Nil. The Imperia collection is a pure silk damask which has been reconstructed in a contemporary way. Silver threads make an irregular strie effect through the pattern of the damask in all six colourways. The Viridiana refers to the name is taken from a character in a Buကuel film played by Catherine Deneuve. The collection features oversized poppies finely printed in tones of citrus and coral are interspersed with cobalt-coloured butterflies to create a fabric full of sunlight printed on fine white cotton in a single colourway. The Belle de Mai collection ins inspired by the rose, the most beautiful of flowers. The collection includes large roses in tones of bright pink and red printed on two grounds, white and anthracite which is almost black. Valombreuse is an area of Paris known for its fine gardens. This collection features a jacquard woven to resemble an embroidery in the same manner as previous successful Lorca designs such as SCARAMOUCHE. In this design, brilliantly-coloured tulips, pansies and peonies are displayed on two coloured grounds. The black version has echoes of the 19th century with slightly muted tones; the one on neutral ground is in brighter hues.
