Alcantara is an innovative upholstery fabric, the result of a unique and patented technology. An imitation suede microfibre with a soft handle highly valued by designers and architects. Alcantara also comes in a cloth-lined finish for a better resistance in seat use.

Alcantara recently obtained the "Carbon Neutral" certification relative to the entire production process.

Alcantara UK Upholstery Fabric

Alcantara is a tradename given to a composite material used to cover surfaces and forms in a variety of applications. Interestingly enough Alcantara fabricis being used currently as a flame retardant seat covering material for Formula One race cars.

The Creation of Alcantara

Alcantara is created via the combination of an advanced spinning process producing very low denier bi-component "islands in the sea" fibre and chemical and textile production processes needle punching, buffing , impregnation, extraction, finishing, dyeing , etc which interact with each other. The appearance and tactile feel of Alcantara Fabric is similar to that of suede , and it may be incorrectly identified as such.

"Backlighting" happens when light filters in through translucent fabrics from behind. Our swatches don't show you the effect of backlighting, which can soften colours and highlight fabric textures.
